Well I mentioned in my "I Made This - Copepod.." thread that my Wife bought me a Mandrain Fish for my Birthday last Friday.

Well since they had just come in to the store that morning we placed the lil guy on hold till Sunday afternoon so he had a bit of recovery before being rebagged and rehomed all over again.

Today is now Thusday and he's been doing well so far. Hid a lot last few days so gave em time to settle and the other fish to clue in he ISN'T food etc.

So here's a couple shots of him..

Opps.. DogFish snuck in there .. Roxie was jealous of the camera snaps all pointed at the tank so had to appease her.

Yeah he's been feeding on copepods in the tank and appears to take frozen brine shrimp too. so that's a bonus.

my wife bought me one for my birthday also... but i had to take it back being my tank is only 2 months old and i really didnt have enough food yet for him. i tried to see if he would eat frozen food and fish eggs but he wouldnt have it at all so i didnt want him to die so i did what i thought was right... :( i cant wait till i can support such a beautiful fish.

    Nice looking fish!

Question: will a seeding of copepods in the live rock grow to a colony large enough in a few months to support a mandarin, or does one have to have a refuge for them to grow in?

A red mandarin is the last fish on my list, but I might as well start thinking about him...

well mandarins basically eat all day so you need a way to keep a copepod population large. copepod population only without refugium or separate tank= mandarin eats them all in 1 week tops
