:eek:Well, the Mandarins like to get jiggy wit it while I feed the corals. This time I was able to get a good video. They do the same courtship thing a number of times, and this video shows the actual eggs being laid and fertilized (hence the rating) :p

haha. I see why you gave it that rating. I pass for a "rated R" movie. :p

That's pretty neat. I also noticed they appear to be two different species of mandarins(red mandarin and a green spot). Is that common to have them breed together? I've only seen that a few times.

It's a 125. I don't have the time to try and raise them. It's easy to collect the eggs from the surface, though.

Good eye to catch the color difference, but they are both the red color variant of the Green Mandarin. Sometimes the females color becomes more pale when they mate. They mate frequently, and it's why I'm always trying to promote feeding them Nutramar Ova. That and pods are all that they eat, and they are in breeding condition. ;)

Cool! Do yours spawn every night? My scooters spawn every night for hours....I thought it was normally a less frequent thing. Are yours like that, or are mine very frisky? Lol

They used to, but the female Leopard Wrasse chases the female Mandarin whenever she comes out of the rocks. Now they only mate if I feed the corals later at night when the wrasse is asleep. Maybe the wrasse is jealous.

    Wow very nice documentation.

I wonder how much of a food source this is to the rest of the tank.

    They are funny little creatures.

Thanks Corailline. Probably not much of a food source. The eggs are very small and almost completely transparent. You can see the light reflect through them from the front of the glass, but from the surface they are very difficult to see.

Eggs are one of the most nutritious things you can feed corals and fish.
