    Do Mangrooves have to be planted meaning buried in the sandbed?

    Nope! You can just toss them in your sump..stick a light over them and you're good to go. Just make sure the tips are out of the water and spray the tips with RO water every few days to rinse the salt off.

    How long do they take to produce leaves and grow a bit?

    I don't think that's really what matters. What matters is roots. They haven't grown too fast up top for me, but I have tons of roots.
