Mangroves need pretty decent lighting, I don't think drift off from your main lighting will be enough. As for the float, they have to be outa the water, how ever you can achieve that, will most likely be fine. Many people get some lace rock and stick the mangrove pod into it at the surface. It'll grow into the rock in several months. BTW, when you do get some pods, remember that they go into accliamtion shock and typically don't look right for a few weeks.

I plant my mangroves in a shallow tank with oolitic sand and light with a 150w MH on 12 hours a day. I get great growth out of them, even at full strength SW.

I have a refuge light but it's sitting on top of my refuge and I was gonna put the mangrove seeds in my fuge so there floating around the light but the light wouldn't be over them. I don't have any way to put a light over them. Won't that still work and it also would get indirect light from the sun out my window.

With good exsposure to sun light, it may work. The light from below won't help them much though.

never mind the sun, I found a way to put my 18 watt PC refuge light higher so it will cover the mangroves. The only problem is that it will be higher which means less light for my macroalgae. It will be about 8-10 in. higher. Will that cause them to go asexual or cause slow growth.

i mean the macroalgae go asexual or have slow growth. It will be about 8 in higher, the light. Will it illuminate them enough.
