Ok, I have been told to order some red mangroves for nitrate help in my tank. I kind of like the look, and I had this idea where one side of the tank would have more sand and it would have more actual plants, and the other side would have corals and such. First, how am I supposed to acclimate them exactly? I ordered them from reefcleaners if that helps.
Also, I have heard that you can trimm them back a little and then they will grow out instead of up, kind of like a bonsai. How ould you do this, also?
And if its just a plain bad idea, tell me. Ill just put them in my sump then.

Yes reefcleaners. org has like a care guide on them. You cut the new growth bud on top off and eventually it will grow out and not up. Wouldnt put them in sand to where i could see the roots because they will grow through your joints on a glass DT.

I have my mangrove in my mantis tank in the DT, I just have it mounted so the roots are above the sand. When the roots grow down far enough to touch the sand I tank the mangrove out and trim the roots.

I have been trimming the growth tip off on mine and they have not grown out at all.

EDIT: I see you don't want them anymore. I think you may want to consider keeping them. They are excellent at removing nitrates and phosphates. If you still don't want them you can probably find someone local to you to sell them too.

don't worry as the shoot grow out and get thicker it will probably break the egg crate, much like the tree growing through my deck;D
