Recently I bought 30 mangrove seeds for my fuge. Right now they are in the sand at th bottom of my fuge. I am a bit concerned not having the leaf portion above the water so I will be following directions in the link I will post below.
I will take each sead and tie it to a stand, then elevate the sead so the leaf point will be above the water line.
    Here is the link.

I spent 2 hours tying those seeds to the little poles.
The poles are made from 1/4 PEC. Each is cut at 12 inches. I tied them with plastic plant tie stuff. All of that came from Home Depot.
The pic is not the greatest but it is my fuge after all.

Great idea---i was going to buy some this past weekend, but I did not due to this reason. Does it matter that the roots are not in the sand??? Will they follow the pvc to the sand?

The roots will grow without sand. I bought 3 mangroves that were about 8 inches. I just put them in my return chamber with the top sticking out of the water. The roots seemed to grow fast on mine without any substrate contact. I now have 2 main leaves on each that are about 2.5 inches.

From my understanding( I asked a wifelife officer ), If the seed has not sprouted roots, you can take it. If it has taken root you are not allowed to take it. This law is for the state of Florida, I dont know if thats nation wide. You would need to check with your local auth.

I'm wondering what you paid for them, I could have sent them to you for free, just pay the shipping. I sent a fellow 3reef member 26 mangroves not to long ago and all he spent was $2.70(shipping)
