A mantis is fine as long as you get a species that doesn't grow too big.

personally i would never put a mantis in a ten gallon. i am hesitant to put just about anything in a ten gallon. i was even kinda leary about my twenty gallon. i just try to put it in perspective... what if i lead out my entire life cramped? i try to make everything in this hobby as close to nature as possible and a mantis living its life in tank that small doesnt sound fair to me. but then again i am a very claustrophobic person. lol

10 gal is too small for a peacock mantis. 30 gal is recommend minimum tank size. There are several reasons a peacock should not be in a 10 gal. Peacocks are prone to shell rot and do not tolerate low oxygen.

Aren't mantis shrimp notorious for breaking glass with a whack of their claws? Isn't the glass on ten gallon tanks thinner than most tanks?
