Let me know in a year what it looks like without a cuc.

My mantis tank won the reefcleaners.org ugliest tank contest.

    There are reasons for this.

    A) Most species of mantis would get real ticked off at you if you covered their tanks with a MH pendant of 4 T-5 bulbs

    B) Most species of mantis require a fairly thick sand bed. The mantis bury their uneaten food. When bacteria break that down, the phosphates just adsorb to the aragonite sand (Calcium Carbonate) rather than go directly into the water column to be nabbed by algaes. Obviously, this doesn't last forever....eventually phosphates will start to leach out of the sand bed but that takes a while.

That must be why my mantis tank looked really good til I hit the one year mark. After that my algae exploded. K+ for the info!
