So my mantis died some months ago and kept it up as a reef for alittle then had horrible algae problem and then ich so i tore it down completely and have decided to just keep a mantis only tank again. but heres the reefscape iv come up with that i like the most so far. its a 29gal tank with 2 small power heads, 55 gal marine land hob filter, and have a t5 fixture for it also for my corals i have in a 10 gal right now. gonna put a fuge on this beast this time around.

Rock work looks sweet. What kind of mantis are you going to put in there? Is the rock work sitting on the bottom or is it sturdy enough that it won't collapse if the mantis shifts the sand under it?

im thinken peacock but ill see what my lfs i like can get. i have a few mantis's i wouldnt mine having i like G smithii alot also, i wouldnt mind having a O havanenis again either . the base rocks and larger rocks are glued and molded together to prevent any slipping. i think it will look really good once i get some coraline growth on the rocks. and ill prob have a fish or 2 in there like my last mantis setup. thanks for the compliments too!

i may fill the tank this weekend we will see though still have a fence to finish in the back yard... stupid house getting in the way of my hobbies lol

Where will his cave be? He'll need a very dark cave to avoid molt issues.

He'll want a cave that he can dig right through to the other side if they want. One open area is not enough. It is their nature to have an escape second hole in the one cave. It also takes a lot of time to pummel through rock. IME he'll need one before he is able to create one.

Also, if you make him an appropriate cave he'll go there.... he may find a cave that is in the back of your rockwork.
