Good choices! I'll chime in on the mantis breaking glass thing. The only mantis that even has a remote chance of doing that is a peacock, and as stepho said they need about 30 gallons minimum. But I say 25g as my minimum, because it really depends on how much room they have to roam. A tall and skinny tank would need to be about 30 gallons to be enough horizontal room, but a shorter tank can be around 20 as long as it has the space necessary.

I had a thread going trying to figure out exactly what thickness of glass would be safe for a Peacock, and the majority of the members participating in that agreed on 3/8" thick glass. Which sounds small, but when you look at it in person it's pretty stinkin' thick. I definitely wouldn't go below 3/8", just for the peace of mind. And keep in mind, it's only the full grown Peacocks (6 to 8 inches) that would have a chance at breaking glass <3/8".

And yes, Princess is an N. Wennerae. Which is what Mr. Fister is (stepho's mantis). Some might say that Princess and Mr. Fister are in a long distance relationship at the moment...::)

I'd probably get arrested for animal fighting ::) No officer, we were trying to breed them, promise! One's a girl, the other's a boy. See? "kids...you two were sitting there watching them beat the tar out of each other. That sounds like animal fighting to me. I'm sure Michael Vick has some pointers for you during your stay in jail."

I think a long distance relationship is all we can hope for, for now :( ...what does a baby mantis look like?

from my research 3/8" is safe.with reguards to them breaking glass its the larger peacock 6~8 inches as said above and it was usually because they were antagonised or were digging and accidentally hit the bottom. :) gl with wat ever u choose :)

I have read mantis threads so many times.. and still want one.. I keep trying to figure out a place to setup a 10 gal tank. I still have my 37g tank too.. but not sure I want to do just a shrimp in it.

You might want to go ahead and put the mantis in the 30? Or is the thirty not set up, and you will be setting it up while the mantis grows and frolics and does other mantis things?

I know Schackmel...or whatever the heck her 3reef name is...Melissa had her mantis in a 29 Biocube for years with no trouble. You'll be happy with a peacock, as long as he has a happy home :)
