    Awesome!

The one I recommended earlier, N. wennerae? I love lots of pics of my old N. wennerae on this thread.

Or do you mean the "thumb splitter?" It will be hard to tell what you may find, but it would most likely be S. empusa.

"Caribbean Rock Mantis" but I have never heard it be called that to be honest. Most LFS probably wouldn't know it by that either. Asking for a hitch hiker mantis from florida rock will most likely yield a N. wennerae.

i decided that im going to get the mantis, N. Wennerae. even though my clown survived the ich, its just too stressful and im not going through that again. so im trading it for the mantis.

just incase they dont know the common name, i'll write down the scientific name too.

so, couple last questions, what length of tube and what diameter? i wanna do a "U" shape but the bottom of the "U" will be much longer and the straight parts will be shorter and bent upwards. sounds good?

Probably no larger than 3/4 pvc if you want a pvc den, but its not really necessary, he will likely find a nice hole in the rock to live in.

it will break the glass if he is having a bad day, substrate is universal
    3 inchs
    it will kill all inverts
reef safe unless you get the little jerk mantis which would also go along with breaking the glass NEVER stick your hand in the tank they think its food and let the hammer snap and its beyond painful

i dont know what mantis your talking about?:eek::confused::-X

they almost never break the glass, common misconception. another one it wont go after feather dusters and stars, and usually if you can "tame" it to feeding time, it'll leave other inverts alone. just saying.

and 3/4 inch diameter? well i'd rather be safe then sorry for the PVC....what did you do for yours?

for a Wennerae no larger then 3/4". They will not get that big, so go to your hardware store and look around to see what pieces you like. You can always get a couple pieces and put it in the tank. You can rearrange the rock so it hides the pvc a little better........... however remember mantis will always redecorate their home to their liking.

Again, I had a 12" peacock mantis and I WAS NEVER afraid of it breaking the glass. On youtube and various sites there are dramatic scenes of a mantis going through a tank....however in reality majority of the time those tanks were already cracked or weakended or someone was teasing the mantis on the outside of the tank. Plus the Wennerae is a small mantis and very small chance of breaking the tank.

No matter what research you do, DO NOT EVER dose iodine! Mantis molts are very stressful and they will do it on their own....they do not need iodine supplements and will actually kill a mantis if you dose. They will get enough iodine through their diet!

I recommend getting a wooden shish-kaboob skewer to feed the mantis. Poke the krill and wave it in front of his den. He will come out and grab it off the stick. They are so very fun to watch!
