So I've been gathering the materials to set up a Gonodactylus smithii tank. I've got almost everything I need except for the LR. My question is; does it really matter on the type of lighting needed? I have an Sun-Glo 15", and I also went out and got a Power-Glo 15" for corals. I tried to find a Marine-Glo, but they didn't have it in 15". :( Thanks for the input! :)

I am not familiar with those lights but it shouldn't really matter. G. smithii are a relatively shallow occurring mantis so they will tolerate brighter lighting. I prefer to use only actinics if possible. My N. wennerae which is a shallow occurring species has done fine in bright lighting but he is a lot less skittish since switching to actinics only.

My bad, I should have gone into more detail about the lights. The power-glo bulb I am referring to is the "Hagen POWER GLO Aquarium Fluorescent Bulb 15" 14w T8". The guy at the LFS said it should be fine. I just wanted to make sure he was right :D

    that lighting will be fine.

    G. smithii are not prone to shell disease. Its typically just the large smashers; O. scyllarus, O. japonicus, H. californiensis, and large G. chiragra
