Hey my LFS has been going through stacks upon stacks of these aquariums. They're the Aqua Medic Nano Wave 9's, and I've thoroughly looked them over and like them quite alot. They've got carbon, a fuge with light, and protein skimmer all hidden in the back of it, with just over 5 watts per gallon of PC lighting (eh, not a big fan of PC, but I can't judge till I've owned it anyways right?)

My question is, what species of mantis shrimp would be a good fit for a 9 gallon? I wanted a peacock mantis with maybe a 29 gallon, but that dream has shown itself to be a tad pricey. These setups are around ninety bucks...and my mom's willing to buy one ;D Hence the enthusiasm. So I'm researching them like crazy trying to find anything bad about them.

Oh, and you notice how this website is selling them for $160? My LFS is selling them for $80 because they are selling so much of them.

Pretty decent. I'd buy it for $80. If you plan on only doing a mantis with LR you should be fine. Keep in mind that some mantis are small while some get very large, as well.

You could get a N. Wennerae Like I have. He would be fine in a 9 gal. Are you looking for a spearer type or smasher?

A gonodactylus Smithii would be the best species for that tank. They are the most interactive/hardy. Common name for them is the Purple-Spotted Mantis. Good luck finding one though. That is what I wanted but I could not find one anywhere. I ended up going with the N. Wennerae because I could actually get one.

I'll look in to both of those species. The only reason I'm looking at the nano wave is because of the built in skimmer and the fact that my mom is willing to buy the thing...:D Or else I would have gone with a Biocube or similar for a Peacock. But, being in highschool about to hit college does have it's drawbacks. Money is probably the biggest one. :)

My LFS owner thinks Mantis are awesome and stuff, so he might be able to hook me up with one. Compared to other LFS guys who think they are a worthless tank smashing pest.

Pretty cool man, I was thinking of keeping one of these guys in the fuge for my 160 but don't know much about them. Hopefully this thread will keep me informed :)

My LFS always has mantis shrimp that hitchhike in. See if your LFS ever has any that come in on LR. The problem is that you don't know how big they will get.

Are you planning on keeping just a mantis in the tank?
