It is a dry heat, yeah right !
In a 10 gallon tank the chances are very good that the fish and pistol will pair up, infact I would be surprised if they did not.

The danger to other fish is minimal, to decrease the risk I would not place other fish like blennies or types of jawfish in the same small tank, any fish that lives at the lower levels of the tank and in the substrate my be at risk. Fish that swim or reside in the water column are at a very low risk.

i have a larger Alpheid shrimp, a Japanese Snapping Shrimp. I also have a cleaner shrimp and i have no problems. i also have 9 other fish in my 55. The pistol has its own burrow and will defend it. I enjoy feeding it pellets and watching it stun my nassarius snails.
Yes, you can house the shrimp with others. I recommend spot feeding it. That way you know it is fed. They will stun my CUC, but have not killed anything. My Japanese Snapping Shrimp is a couple inches long. bigger than most pistol shrimp i've seen.
    I hope this helps.

BTW- Tiger pistol, and Randali's are my recommendations for pairing up. i konw that these guys will pair up mroe readily with the shrimp gobies. i have found very little information regarding the pairing up of the shrimpgobies and the Japanese Snapping Shrimps.
