Due too some large areas of red slime I feel I am forced to remove some of my rock and give it a good cleaning. What is the best way to go about this? I am planning on spending most of the day on sat., doing some much needed maintence on my tank, cleaning the inside of the glass, a good water change, ect...

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.

when i had a bad algae problem i pulled out all of the rocks and scrubbed them then rinsed them with some left over tank water and then placed them back into the tank looking great, but if its something small i would do what loneracer said

I take a big turkey baster and blast the cyano off the rocks and then syphon it out. Much easier! It also blasts fish waste, old food, etc. off the rocks that you can then syphon out at the same time.

Good tips guys. I think I am going to take the rock out and scrub it. I want to get it all off and I really want to rearange my aquascape a little.

When I scrub the rocks do I have to let them sit at all, or can I just put them right back in the tank?

google cooking live rock, then consider whether you need to do that. cooking rock means putting it in fresh saltwater in the dark and doing regular water changes to suck out all of the nutrients and phosphates. It's very effective and the high end sps folks swear by it to improve the growth and color of their corals. Zeo might take it's place though.

Look for reasons why you started getting the cyano in the first place. getting rid of the algae is good, but you don't want it to keep happening.

Worked on my tank for 4 or so hours today. Took out all of my rock, cleaned my substrate and added the rock back. I re-rockscaped. Everything looks good. What are some steps to keep the slime from returning? I picked up a FREE two little fishes phos/carbon reactor. I will be setting that up with some carbon this week.
