I'd be worried it would come loose and cause a rockslide. Definitely would make sure it's secured.

I'd use 3m's 5200 or Sikiflex to bond it with. These two are pretty bullet proof, but I have no idea how reef safe they are.

Awesome idea, why didn't I think of that...

How would one go about cutting the rock? I have scoured the internet looking for carbide tipped bandsaw blades, but cannot find anything difinitive stating that it will cut rock. Trying a Quickie saw might be a little overkill...ending up with dust.

My brother has his own masonry business, and has several gas powered stone cutting saws. They are very similar to a circular saw, but use a different type of blade (not the standard carbide-tipped blade), and are quite a bit larger. Cuts through concrete like it's butter.

Here one pictured on the website I linked to:

That is a quickie saw...I mentioned that above...overkill for a reef rock. I have used them before and yes, concrete doesn't stand a chance...but with a small rock, clamping it, and cutting it with that would be more hassle than it is worth. Although, I did think about a tile saw, and wondered if that would work.

Id like to get a few pieces of the wall rock pieces to give the back of the aquarium some depth. I dont think id trust silicone tho. I have used this stuff to secure some eggcrate around a drain in a refugium that was a year old and did it with water in the tank. The stuff is amazingly strong....cant imagine it would have a hard time holding some pieces of rock to the back of glass.
