    Interesting. Good points Greg. Now I'm wondering if perhaps my theory is incorrect. In reading something about an operculum sp?, perhaps this was what I was seeing? Someone described it as a trap door they may close over themselves as they withdraw into their little home. My main concern was finding him laying on the sand not adhered to rock or glass or seeking food for at least a day. Yet hes' still alive! If I try to touch (albeit-gently) he startles. I don't relish any sniff test. And I don't want him being dinner for his tankmates.
    @packerfreak, that's awesome they can move around outside their shell?

    Yeah but once they detach their shells they are usually eaten in a frag tank since they have no cover. They look almost like a mollusk without their shell

    Update: The injured or sick snail has bounced back. After keeping it in a floating breeder/isolation tank for a few weeks it seemed to have improved. It's been back in the tank a while now!
