    Hi all,
Just came back from vacation to find that my marine betta has something wrong with it's fin. It looks like a wound at the base of the fin, and I can't tell if there are worm-like things coming out, or if it is the muscle tissue. All of my parameters are normal, except nitrates have spiked due to overfeeding while I was gone. The rest of the fish and corals seem perfectly fine. Any help or advice on treatment is much appreciated!

Not sure though it does not look like a battle wound without more damage on outer fin. Beautiful fish though I hope it is ok.

    Bump-

Thanks for the replies, I'm just looking for some more confirmation of what this is. Should I just go ahead with melafix?? Should I catch the fish and try and remove it?

I personally havent had any luck with melafix, I have had tons of luck with Herbtana products though, such as Microbe lift, assuming its some sort of a parasite or fungal thing

How do you like the Marine betta?
I know how they are in terms of agressiveness "they are typically shy" but I was debating on getting one for my RSM since my LFS gets them in quite often at about an inch long or so and when he gets bigger I would move him to my 65 gallon

What I was curious about is how is he with small shrimp like peppermint shrimp or skunk/blood cleaner shrimp?

I absolutely LOVE Calypso, my marine betta! I have had her for almost a year now. As I'm sure you've heard, they are a little difficult to get them to eat at first, but I never had to buy live foods. She didn't eat for the first two days I had her, but by the third day she was eating frozen brine, and I had to turn the powerheads off. She now eats flake and brine every other day without turning off the powerheads.

When I bought her, she was about 4 inches long, and now she has grown to about 6. She doesn't bother any of my fish, all of which are much smaller than her (2 perc. clowns, 1 firefish, 1 prawn goby, and 1 flasher wrasse). She was added last into the tank, and didn't show too much shyness after a couple weeks.

As far as shrimps go, I have lost a 1" pistol shrimp who wandered too far from his hole. But she doesn't seem at all interested in my peppermint or coral banded shrimp. Both of them are at least 2" long though.

I have her in a 75 gallon tank with fair amounts of hiding places. She was very shy at first and now comes out and begs for food when I come near the tank, then goes back to her cave when she's had her fill :)

What was it and how was it cured?

My betta has the same exact looking symptom on the same place. I know this is an old thread but was there any information on this. Did you get it fixed? Can it spread
