I recently had an extended power outage that lasted 8+ hours (last weekend). Shortly there after my coral beauty and 2 yellow tail damsels died...reflecting back on the coral beauty and his behavior, and doing some research online it seems to me that he had Velvet disease. He was covered with tiny white spots, basically he was dusted with them and swimming into the current and bobbing up and down in the water...that lasted about 1 day then he seemed ok, then the white spots again, then the power outage then the deaths. I am thinking that the stress of the power outage, the O2 depletion, the rise in tank temp plus the velvet disease was just too much for them and they didn't make it.

Question I have is now that my tank is fishless what should I do to make sure, if it was velvet disease, that my tank is rid of it?

Acriflavine, I believe its called Revive, a reef safe acriflavine.
Velvet will live off light and can handle near if not freshwater salinity so hyposalinty is out of the question...

Is this a reef tank with inverts?

Say, about the power outage...at least buy a small generator to run you tank and maybe a couple other things. I learned the hard way and lost probably $200.00 in fish (before I had coral). I vowed it wouldn't happen again. I had my house hooked up to a separate box and can run the whole house off a huge generator. I have close to $1500.00 tied up in fish and coral. Now, you don't need to go as far I did, but a small generator is a wise investment.

It is a fish only w/live rock tank. 34 gallon RSM. I have 2 crabs and 2 snails in the tank and that is all. Run mechnical filter, skimmer, chemi-pure. Been running since mid-Feb. No issues with anything except this one. I just need to dose the tank, if that what you are saying?

I thought velvet looked more like slimy film on the fish. sounds more like white spot.

Velvet looks more like a goldish powder covering the fish. Ich has the white spots you described.
