Update... Water level in sump doesn't make all that much difference.

I have found that wet skimming is more efficient than dry skimming. With dry, nothing ever made it into the cup. I had to clean the inside of the neck every day or two... It was a light brown, tan junk. With wet skimming, the skimmate is a dark green color. I feel, based on the color and amounts, tat is best for my tank.

I think I'll have to agree with you. I didn't like having to clean the neck every other day. This is what my cup looks like after 2.5 days.

Just cleaned mine out about 10 minutes ago.... wish I took a pic. It was just like yours though.... about 4-5 days at was was a little over 1/2 full. Still quite a bit of solid stuff on the inside of the neck and under the lid.

Do you have your bubbles cresting about 1/2 way up the neck? That is about what works for me.

Overall, I am pleased now that I am getting some solid, stable results.... i like the small footprint, compact and it being self contained. Fits my sump well... I could not handle much more.

That pretty much exactly where my bubbles are. I'm starting to like this skimmer as well. I didn't have much choice, it's pretty much the only one with a small enough footprint. I bought my tank used when I first got into the hobby. If I ever upgrade, I will make sure I leave enough room in the sump/refugium for a bigger skimmer. But overall, once I got this thing broke in, I can't complain about it.

Just thought I'd give another update since I've been monitoring my skimmer a little closer this last week. 5 days ago after a water change, I marked my sump level. After 5 days I've topped off my sump twice, both times it had dropped about 1.5 inches. And I NEVER had to adjust this skimmer. I'm quiet happy with this skimmer now. Here are pics of the water level drop, and the skimmate after a few days.

This is the only skimmer I've ever owned. I'm sure there are better ones out there, but for the size and the price, I'm very pleased.

Hmm I didn't notice yours is different than mine. The neck on my model is the same thickness all the way to the top. Yours gets very narrow. But I get that amount of sludge build up in about two weeks. Not nearly as often as you described. I keep my bubbles about an inch away from the top and I find that works best.
