just got my 36/48". i like, but nowhere near enough light for a reef. i'll be getting another just to have enough light for my 75g FOWLR. sure looks dim after my 4x54w T5 :), but i'm after less light so my puffer will swim more. i need just enough to grow some coraline.

    just under $200 with tax.

http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=70136&l=91503e4b61&id=100000343005256 . my tank with 2 36/38 strips. it's good, but i still need more for FOWLR. no way for a reef.

i will be adding at least 2 of these: http://www.petsolutions.com/Stunner-LED-Lighting-Strips I45808013.aspx to my strips to bring it up to snuff.

for reef use, you'd need this: http://www.petsolutions.com/Panorama-System I45806060.aspx my lfs has one running and they are stellar.

or retro-fit with this: http://www.petsolutions.com/Panorama-LED-Retrofit-Module I45808210.aspx basically what the above reef light uses, but you can put them in your current fixture.

shucks, i just saw the marineland add in a magazine and got all whipped up about the possibilitys, but nowhere in the add does it say how much light they thro, just "600 lumens" wich means nothing to me..
i'm really hoping this led thing works out down the road, they seem to be to good to be true!

This thread and light has been around for awhile, but I just wanted to throw in that I just got the 18" version. My plan was to put it on my Bio-Cube 8 which is nowhere near 18". Fortunately as I hoped there was a few inches of void on both ends of the unit. After some quick hacksawing it fits perfect. I have a sebae nem in the tank and it definitely appears to be loving the shimmering light. Color temp seems to be a little on the yellow side, but for about $100 the electric savings I should see in the first year will probably pay for it anyway.

I look forward to your follow-ups. Do you have a pic of the new setup?

    lol I might be...

After reading into this light a little bit more I was getting a little worried. Seems it's rated as a FO light. My hopes for using this for my nem were dashed when I read that, so I decided to do a little real world testing on this light. I shut off the lights over my reef tank and positioned it right over my SPS frag rack. I'm not drawing conclusions just yet, as it's only been running for about an hour like that, but so far my SPS seems to be extending it's polyps more. It's quite obviously dimmer than my halides, but the frags love it. To top that off the acros that are at the bottom of the tank under the frag rack seem to be enjoying as well. I'm not sure what type of conclusion to draw from this if any.

How long do you think I should wait before thinking it's enough to sustain the SPS frags? I'm obviously not going to run it like this long enough to see growth, but I would like to be able to say something from this experiment.
