After reading countless threads on their terrible LED lights, and the heater recalls, I had a pretty good idea about their quality. I also purchased a maxi jet 900 pro awhile back to use as a small pump to feed the fuge in my sump. It rattled like crazy in "propeller" mode and the mount was junk. Luckily it still worked fine in "powerhead" mode which is what I needed it for. Well I'm trying to clear up a cloudy tank and after reading about diatom filters and how many people have had success using diatom powder in the marineland magnum 250 filters, I decided to buy one and try it out. I just got home from work and unboxed the BRAND NEW magnum, assembled it on the tank and hit the power button, and RATTLE RATTLE RATTLE CLANK, BUZZ. So I take apart the brand new filter and the magnet on the impeller is cracked in half from the factory. GREAT. I call tech support to complain, but oh wait, they are closed for the day. What a joke, so now I have a new filter that I can't use and my tank gets to sit here cloudy while I wait till tomorrow to call tech support on their crappy banker's hours. This company is terrible and I wouldn't recommend them to anyone. I've bought 2 products from them and both have been screwed up right out of the box.

    Guess I'm done venting now.....

from what I have heard marineland is terrible for saltwater, and they tend to break easily when used with salt water. but I havent hear of alot of problems with fresh water.

Mine was terribly loud. Something was screwed up with it bad. It works fine in powerhead mode. The mount for it was a joke, it wouldn't even begin to support the weight of the pump.
