Does anyone know anything about the Marineland 18-24 inch LEDs. I currently have an 8 bulb 48inch T5 setup on my 72 inch tank. I had that on my 75 gal before i got this larger tank. My local Petco has the Marineland units on clearance and i was going to use them to supplement the sides of the tank with lighting. The problem is i cannot find any info on the light spectrum so i cannot determine if this will help or just be a complete waste of money.

I know that they are terrible at growing corals. Not sure about the spectrum, though. I'll let someone who has personal experience with them chime in.

You would be better off going with some par38 leds on the sides. Marineland leds have no par for growing corals and quality control is terrible. Maybe some boostled par38s with clamp kits?

Thats the info i was looking for. I had assumed that they were complete junk but thought that they could possibly fill the gap until i can afford a complete lighting upgrade. The par38s sounds like an idea. any other suggestions? I have a canopy with only 6 inches of clearance so thats a factor also.

I used the one that I won a few years ago on my fuge. I'd say the are about 10k with 3 blues and 21 whites. The light gets so hot the rubber on the power cord gets sort of.... well... less than solid. But to be fair it runs 24/7 and has for the last year.

Maybe go diy led from rapidled then. I know they have solderless leds now if you aren't a big diy person, it should be fairly easy. Then you can definitely fit it in the 6 inches.

The rapidLED may be the way to go. Thanks for the input!

I would avoid the Marineland LED's. I have one on my 56g tank and the corals have never really done well. I am upgrading to a 90g and going back to a T5 setup.

I actually like the double bright marineland for the accent color it gives. I use a different brand now but I still like to keep the doublebright on the side for the "sun" effect it gives.

I had the reef-capable version and did not care for it. The integrated light was fantastic but the color spectrum by itself was not good and I was starting to notice some flickering like it was going bad.

Marineland makes an excellent led fixture. There are many different models and just because there led lights it doesn't mean it's meant for your lighting needs. Check out marineland "reef capable" led fixtures. My friend has a couple on his 200 gallon and there spectacular. There expensive but good. I've never seen reef led fixtures at petco, you have to go online to petco.com. good luck
