I have had one for around six months and it works very well. I did not have any problem with mine at all, very plug and play. The collection cup is easy to remove and replace for cleaning. All in all a good skimmer.

I have the 300 model of the Marineland skimmer and I have been fairly happy with it. My tank is new, and I am new to protein skimmers so it has been a love/hate relationship. I have found that it can be very sensitive to water levels. I added an ATO system to my sump and it has been much better. Less need for adjustment. For me, it was about the size and price. If fits my sump and wallet perfectly. best of luck!!!

    Regards,
    Ivy

I also use this skimmer and like it very much. But as stated above it is very picky about the water level

When I first saw it I wanted one. I was impressed by the design and wondered why there weren't more like it. It would free up needed space for media. If my Coralife SS ever gives out I will be buying!

I had one of the 300s on my tank and had problems with it. The design was good and all. I contacted marineland and not only was the first on defective but so was the second one. they admitted fault in both cases and they were great to deal with as a company. They sent me a third and it sits in a box still as I bought a model 2 pm bullet for not much more and never looked back. I personally wouldent put on on a 180 as this model 300 is really rated for more like a 125. Not bashing the product but hey if you want a good deal on one I have it in the box brand new. Marineland said if your water fluxuates at all you will be adjusting it daily I did not have to but this is what they said to me. Good luck and I hope this might help.

I had a 100 model for my first skimmer, i really hated it. if your skimmer budget is on the low side, why not look for a good used skimmer. I found my used modded ASM G3 for $100 on RC local club forums. Craigslist is full of great deals, especially if you e-mail people that have had setups on there for a while asking them if they will part stuff out.
