    FWIW, laminar flow is simply a constant flow in a single direction. PH's that are not connected to some type of wavemaker/flow alternator produce laminar flow. As mentioned, this can be mitigated by letting their outputs "crash into" each other, thus randomizing the flow pattern a bit if you don't use a wavemaker.
