Marineland Model#2 vs DIY sump

    Whats are some opinons on the Marineland Model#2 sump vs a DIY 20g sump....The Model#2 has basically the same footprint...Just curious...I have the LFS trying to sell it to me!?....What are the pros vs cons

    An old fish tank and some acrylic sheets are that's needed for a basic DIY sump. A tank from CL and a few sheets of acrylic don't cost much. Lowes or Home Depot will cut the acrylic for free as long as you buy a sheet from them.

    I don't care for the Model 2. Take a look at the maximum water level indicator on it. That precludes being able to run some skimmers without modding the sump. My attitude is that if you have to mod a very expensive sump to use it, you might as well mod something that is much cheaper.

    Well said, diy sumps give you what you need for a fraction of the cost. It may be easier to just buy something, but rarely does one size really fit all.

    OK....Since I posted this , I have done alot of talking,research/reading....Call me dumb, newbie....This is not anywhere close to what I want/ need....::) good for FO tank;)...maybe a big Nitro factory for a reef tank
