So, I used a whole bunch (like 1/2 a tube) of the Marineland epoxy to hold down a coral and a few pieces of kelp in my tank. Now, a few hours later, the skimmer is overflowing every 10 minutes or so. I have 2 questions about this.

    1) Why do I get more bubbles in the display part of the tank when the skimmer air valve is set lower? This one is kinda mixing me up.

    2) Is there any way to speed up the process so the bubbles will lose their higher-than-average surface tension quicker? I've been dumping the water back into the tank; will tossing it out slow down the production of skim water?

Turn your skimmer off for a while.

I had it off for the few hours (4 or 5) since I applied the epoxy. It's as bad as it was a few hours ago in terms of time-to-overflow.

    leave it on
do not dump back in the tank... that is pouring all the DOC and DOS and other organic matter that you just took out right back in!!!
you can skim really dry to reduce the quantity of bubbles, however it will take longer to completely pull out

I wouldn't have worried about random DOC stuffs that skimmers are there to take out, it's only a very small amount, nearly nothing in terms of skimmate. The water from the over-skimming is as clear as the water normally is.

I didn't realize the skimmer was pulling out whatever chemical the putty released that changed the surface tension of the water, though. After taking out the first two cups, it's a lot slower, almost at a normal rate. Thanks a lot!

no problems :) ...DOC make up a majority, about 29% of what is pulled out by a typical "efficient" skimmer

the epoxy overdrives the skimmer and make it go nuts. i put some in not too long ago and within in a few moments the skimmer send millions of bubbles into the DT. it can take a day or so to clear up.. sometimes more.
