As many of you know, I will be switching from T5 lighting to MH lighting. I am looking at two fixtures, Ice Cap's Reef Illuminations 36" 2x250w MH and SLS's Maristar 36" 2x250w MH fixture. I was wondering if anybody has any experience with either of these fixtures? I was going to go with the Maristar, and am still leaning that way, but I just found out that there is a Reef Illumination's 36" 2x250w fixture, not just a single 250w fixture. Now, the Ice Cap fixture is slightly less expensive and if I get it as Aqua Cave, it comes with 2 free IceCap MH bulbs and T5 bulbs. Here's a link

The benefits of this fixture is that it's a little less money and it has lunar LEDs. The negatives are that it has internal MH ballasts which make the fixture much heavier and hotter. I am trying to minimize the amount of heat above my tank and would rather not have something that weighs a lot over my tank.

The Maristar's negatives is that it is a little more expensive and does not have lunar lights. Now I currently don't run lunar lights but used to and did like them. It's positives are that it's lighter and it has external MH ballasts

So,what do you guys think? What would you go with? Experiences? Reasons for one or the other?

I like the external ballasts of the maristar but the Icecap has a really nice look to it and the led lights I am sure look great at night. I think that I like the reef optic reflectors on the maristar fixture a little better as well. I think either choice would do great.

I was looking at the Reef Illuminations and I couldn't tell or find if the T5's have individual reflectors or not...

Thanks, I didn' think too much about the reflectors, that's a good point.
