    Welcome to 3reef,

Have you added anything to the tank in the way of new fish or other live stock?

Do you have a current set of water parameters, if not I would get those including specific gravity.

Are there any physical manifestations of illness, such a color, white spots, white coating, breathing at the surface?

    TIA

Then I would looks into a water quality issue, such as elevated nitrates or possibly ammonia.

If there is a film on the surface, you may have decreased gas exchange which can affect the pH of the water as well as the oxygenation. It has been my experience that increasing the surface agitation with use of a power head, or addition of a surface skimmer assist in preventing surface scum. You can also use a paper towel to remove it.

    Good luck.
