Oh geeze! I don't know how I missed the MEN part! Blacked it out probably. I seriously hope you don't have them. I got them and they pretty much wiped out all of my plating monti's.
I wouldn't wish those baddies on anyone. I was able to overcome them and save some of my green cap. I diligently sought out adults and eggs. I also enlisted the aid of a six line and kept him starving. All of the monti's that were affected are regrowing and I haven't seen any new bald spots so I think I really beat them this time.

Looks like the search works again - been reading up on the monti eating nudis - ugh - perhaps that was it - do they work fast? Whatever it was did it quick.

They can when they get sufficient numbers. And given your busy schedule you may have missed the signs.

    Kalk reactor situation

are you mixing at 2 teaspoons per gallon of RODI and occasionally getting to much liquid dispersed?

one suggestion would be to dilute your mix to a 1 teaspoon per gallon ratio
as this will cut down on amount of Kalk that does not mix
and also will reduce the issue of the dosing quantity problem being experienced

but naturally your evap rate with determine if you can still maintain required levels even when dosing at this more diluted amount

Yeah Steve I diluted it before but found a sweet spot where it worked best with a bit more than that. The problem with the Tunze kalk reactor is that is doesn't mix it well and a lot of it settles and cakes. Also since my ATO pump went out, I stated to think of back-pressure caused by that reactor a bit. So I looking at other routes here.

The best way I ever did it before was simply a kent marine float and a 5 gallon reservoir. The constant drip got results. Not sure I want to ditch my precise tunze ATO to go back to that, but that really did work nice. Never clogged either with general up keep.

What a drag. This is kinda embarrassing. I remember the first time I noticed and I thought it might be my old light with lack of actinic. But the moving/kid thing really made me just top of the ATO and do an occasional water change. Tank took a backseat. So much for montis. :p

I am curious - I have a UV filter I have not hooked up yet - would that help zap these nudis out?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
A UV filter would be too easy. I am pretty sure that MEN do not go through a free floating/swimming stage and would never come in direct contact with the UV filter.

UV filters would probably be flying off the shelf if they did effectively treat nudibranchs IMO.

Sorry to hear about the MEN situation, I was just about to Post about the UV and Cheryl beat me to it :p...

Ive heard of some people using Potassium Permanganate, except it is harsh the the corals and browns them out.

No worries - I guess it's easy now because I don't need to treat. All gone!
I think the green I am seeing on a couple branches is algae.:p
