Should i add a flame angel as my 4th and final fish?

  1. No, i wouldn't risk it with the corals.

  2. go for it! as long as you keep it fed it shouldn't be an issue.

As long as your levels are ok then there's no reason to.:) but I would imagine in a sps heavy tank pwc would be important.

I'm not suggesting that. For someone with measurable waste it's a different game. But with a true 0 on N and a true 0 on Phosphate with no visible problem algaes and great coral growth/color. You don't have change the water every week/month even. I just cringe when I see steadfast rules.

You have a skimmer too right? As long as you have good Macro growth and can export via algae faster than you input it's fine. There is a point where heavy metals, bionic imbalances and "trace" elements could crash your tank. There is just no rule or way to test when that is. And, it's much further than most people thought. The real key is are you keeping a waste free healthy tank?

I still think water changes are great, especially on reef tanks. I just don't like it when people say you "HAVE" to change every so days, weeks or months. With my personal filtration I know that I can feed as much as I like and never see a nitrate or phosphate. I also am pulling a pound or more algae out of my scrubber every week and 2 full cups of skimmate. I am also hyper aware of my tank and I'm quick to do a water change if something doesn't look right. This works for me, I can't promise it will work for you.

I know what I'm looking for when it comes to potential problems. I know because I have screwed up a tank before by ignoring the signs, lol. The key in this hobby is knowing WHY you are doing something. When you understand how it works you better know how to manipulate it. If you don't fully understand the water chemistry yet, do lots of water changes. As it will keep you close to the baseline starting point that we know grows healthy corals.
