Personally, I think the pump for an ATO would be your safest rout. When the float switch stops (water reaches normal level), the pump will turn off. I like the idea of putting the reservoir in a foot stool. I never thought of that before.

 

Well I've got a rio 600 and an eshopps float valve, can I make something out of that?

 

I think you should be able to have the output of your pump go to the tubing (connection) on your Eshopps float valve.

No problem. An ATO is something I should add to my tank too, but haven't done so yet. Yes, leave the pump always plugged in. IRRC, it will only be actuated by the float valve lowering (because of evap.). But someone else should comment on this too, to be sure I have it straight. lol.

 

Sweet! So even if it's always pumping water, the valve won't let water into the tank? That's cool.
