I have a debate, when I bought my tank I had the guy at the LFS do what he thought was best (as I was a newbie to saltwater) and well, now I want to change it, I have 4 flex lines in my tank and well, it's not putting alot of flow in my tank I am wondering what's the max return pump I can use, and the guy used 1" pipe at first then went to 1 3/4", will that drop my water flow?

Instead of using a return pump and generating a lot of heat and using a lot of energy look into Koralia Evolution pumps. They use about 5 watts to generate up to 1400 gph.

I would still use Koralias over a return pump. If you run too much water through the sump microbubbles from the skimmer will get into the tank. Besides it hard to get an over flow that can handle a large flow.

    +1

Return pumps are not for flow.... they are to move water from the display tank to the sump and back to the tank. Powerheads are for flow.

Nothing wrong they can be used to hit dead zones.

What size is your tank? That will help us give you a better suggestion. Also what is your coral stock?
