That is odd. My 1200's are pretty quiet. How is it mounted? Did you clean the impeller?

We are using some maxi-jets and they are virtually silent. Is the impeller shaft sitting snugly in the fittings on both ends? Is it a rattling noise or more of a vibrating noise (if that makes any sense)?

That is odd. Have you tried mounting with suction cups to see if it dampens it? I like Mike's idea too.

Impeller is sheared off of the magnet , they make a loud rattling sound like a grinder almost .

I'm not positive on the maxijets, haven't taken one apart in several months, but I think there is a soft plastic piece on one end of the impeller to help dampen vibrations. It sounds like you may have dropped this or something when you cleaned it? If it's a rattling noise, then the first thing I'd check for personally is one end of the impeller that isn't sitting snugly in it's housing and allowing the impeller to be off-balance or jump around while it's running. At the most, a 1200 should only make a very slight humm (if that) while it's running under water. We can't hear ours over the gentle sound of the water falling out of the protein skimmer.
