I'm going to buy a 75 gallon tank and stand on Craigslist and have a question about the pumps that come with it. The guy said that it comes with 2 maxi jet 1200's and one RIO 400 powerhead. Will these create enough water movement for a 75 gallon tank? Are the maxi jet 1200's any good?

Also it says that it comes with a 9v turbotwist uv sterilizer. What does this do?

im gonna say no not enough flow. go with around 50xgallons to get a good flow rate.
so around 3750 gph is what you want

maxijets are crap unless you get a sure flow upgrades.

no you would need a upgrade for each, since i believe the upgrade the big prop does 2000 gph.

i would recommend on using the mediums propellar since the big puts out some serious flow, the mediums put out a respectable 1600gph

a maxijet 1200 stock only puts out 300gph

Ive seen a =video that was a DIY water flow upgrade for Maxi-Jets... Ill try to find it... Also +1 about needing more flow... 50x or more is key.. Keep those power heads, because they can come in hand on a Qt tank or even in the DT for dead spot prevention...

    Best of luck
