Usually people say Stichodactlya tapetum grows to 2 inches, but most of these are sold as mini-carpet anemones or mini-minis. Maxi-mini's do not seem to be Stichodactlya tapetum and grow to 5-6, as described here Mini-Carpets: The Perfect Small Sea Anemones? | Coral Magazine

Also, they mention, Julian Sprung has claimed that there is a 12 version of
    Stichodactlya tapetum.

I guess the definitions aren't standardized, but I have always referred to the maxis as the 5-6" variety as have others I have dealt with on the forums.

In the article, they claim the sting isn't as bad as other nems. I'm not sure I agree with that, they seem pretty potent to me. After my BTA split, I saw the clone crawl into one of my maxi-minis. I've never seen a nem move so fast, I swear that BTA turned and ran for the hills. The maxi-mini didn't seem to even notice....

Sorry, to hear about your loss though schackmel, anemones in a reef is almost like playing Russian roulette. Some of us are still foolish enough to do so though (yeah I have a few too  ). However, then again, maybe it ate the fish because Curt hurt it's feelings, wouldn't you be mad if you were called that ;D

Definately more than likely did it simply because of Curt calling it names so much! This was my choice and I was wanting an anemone and figured this tank was a perfect tank for it......had a few softies and zoos in it, other than that nothing that could really be damaged.

I doubt that this fish was ill in anyway....he was growing and eating like a piggie! We placed a large red sponge in there for him to destroy (and he continually picked at it 24/7) and we fed him a variety of foods several times a day. But you never know it could have been ill. The water quality is spot on and has more filtration in this tank then in most of our other tanks, including our SPS!

The carpet is about 6-7 inches by 4inches with a very big foot (IMO) that has a strong hold to the bottom of our tank (sand bed is a couple inches thick...it is an acrylic tank and we can see the foot as it is on the side of the tank) This thing hasnt moved an inch since we got it.....so he is at least healthy (why not he had a very expensive dinner)

thanks all for the info and advice!

Nope, but it did have a 6 inch banner sticking out of it's mouth like it was sticking it's tongue out at me.

LOL well I didn't, but now I know. LOL. So, if this is toned down do to family oriented forum, I hate to imagine how you really felt when it happened.

LOL. I'm not laughing at your misfortune...really I'm not. It's the image that comes to mind that makes me laugh. I'd be severely PO'd as well. I've been thinking of setting up a FO and getting one of those butterflies so my 5 year will quit pestering me about getting Gill. (the Moorish Idol from Nemo). He'd never know the difference.
