hey everyone, I'm hoping someone has some experience with maxi minis. I'm really liking the idea of having an anemone, but it doesn't seem like anyone has really had much luck with a RBTA in a 40B, and I don't want to get an animal unsuited to my tank. I just saw some awesome maxi-mini's hosting anemone crabs. Very cool.

I guess my question is how reef safe are these? My primary concern would be my fire fish, and Im interested in getting a either a blue dotted jawfish or a YWG. I've also not had the best luck with crabs in general. Thanks for the help

I've never had them, but have 3 ordered for a small tank. But from what I've read on here, small fish are fair game, so its a risk.

I love Maxi-min, you can look at LAReef, they sometimes have nice collections.

Personally I never had an issue with Maxi-mins and fish. For some reason mine always stayed about 1/3 rd of the way up the tank. Personally I would not be too concerned.

Now for BTA, they do fine in a smaller tank. I have mostly kept them in tanks under 30 gallons with sps and lps. Do they move around yes, but if you place them prior to placing a lot of corals, provide mod flow, good lighting and good water quality they just do not move that much IME except to split.

Any anemone is a gamble, the larger the tank the better able the tank to handle a dying anemone. I would sure not count out BTA in a 40 gallon breeder at all.

I have had one in my tank for over a year and it hasn't moved, looks healthy and hasn't eaten anything. I got another nice one, I immediately move under a rock and sat there for 3 weeks before starting to die. I now have a new one its sitting right where i want it and looks great. I've heard of anemone crabs and shrimp feasting on LSP though.

I have a large GBTA in my Jbj 28, and its doing great. It's been in there for about 3 months. Before that I had a LTA that shriveled up and died so I guess it's hit and miss. It's angry because I just got rid of the MH and put in a kessil a150w, now it won't come out more then half way from his ledge into the light. :sunny:
