    Okay guys,

I guess this question is to basically see if I need to spend some time researching the care and maintaining a Maxima clam.

I'd really like to add a Maxima to my tank, here's the specifics:

    37 gallon tank
    30" 4x24 T5 light
    Wet/dry
    Skimmer (in sump)
The tank is 20" deep, but I'd put it up towards the top, say about a foot from the surface.

If this is something that's doable? If so, be prepared for a new thread about Maxima care! :)

    Thanks,
    David

I replied to your pm, didn't realize you had a thread too. As far as lighting, it's not too bad, but not great. I think you can get away with it, but placement will be key. Remember Maximas are rock boring clams, so it would be best to put it on a small rock so you can easily move it around you tank. I wish I would have done that with my clam. One question is how long has your tank been setup?

    No big deal.

My tank has been set up for about 5 weeks, and cycled from probably about 2.5 - 3 weeks. I don't necessarily need to have the clam in there right away, just want to put the research in motion if you will.

If that's the case, I think you can try it. If you want a better chance at success, you may want to consider a gold maxima, generally, they require less light then the blue/green ones.

Yeah, I've heard the Gold Maxima's are easier, however, the deal on a local forum is for a blue one. I think I'll give it a go. It's only $25, but I'd obvious still prefer to provide it a good home.

Is there anything I need to do for the clam, or specific water parameters to check?

keep your calcium around 400 and your alk above 8. Keep your phosphates as close to zero as possible and nitrate below 5.

Your idea to keep it near the top would be the only thing I would say is a must with the lighting you specify. I have one under a 48" T5 4 bulb, it has grown and stayed very happy and open. Good luck!

Yeah I was really looking forward to the maxima clam, however upon more research discovered that my tank is too new. I'll probably wait until the winter to add one. Hate to kill something so beautiful out of pure ignorance.
