I recently upgraded to a 150 gallon with a center brace.Icurrently am running 2 400 watt halides over it.I want to make the jump to led at tax time due to heat and energy issues. I was wonder if any one has had any experince with the 27" models over a 72" tank and how well the light spread is and if there were dark areas if any?

You would probably want 2 razors.

You should be ok with two, unless you've got a reaaaaly shallow 150 and it is wide as all heck ;) (Don't laugh, I've got a 4'x4'x15" 150!) :)

Two 27's would definitely cover it,maybe two 20inch.I just replaced a 250watt sunpod with a 20inch razor and the razor is much more intense.I am using the tank mounted stand and can only use 50% power to start with. You could hang them higher for more coverage, they are very intense.
