this may be dumb... is there anyway to add a fuge to my 150 with out putting it inside a chamber of my sump.... i wanna get like a 20g tall and put it next to my sump in my stand... any way i could use one of my drains to feed the fuge seperately and somehow use a pump to pump water to the return area of my sump... is this dumb to think or should i just make an acrylic tank or get a heavy duty rubbermaid and drill my acrylic sump and put a bulkhead connecting the two..

I swear I saw a post with someone something similar several months ago. Honestly I don't know if it was on here or not. Most likely reef central because that was before I found the glory that is 3Reef.

Anyway, in theory at least, I would think there would be a way to make this work. The hardest part would be to find a pump for the 'fuge that would pump out exactly what is being put into it, or else over time it would either overflow or dry up. I imagine it possible with one of the smaller adjustable rate pumps out there. You could fine tune it that way.

I don't know how hard that might be to do in actual practice though and hopefully someone has tried this and can chime in.

The only other thing you'd want to be sure of is that your return to your DT can handle the flow from both.

I'll be curious to hear others thoughts on this as well.

    yeah

my return pump is a mag24 with 1" returns at about a 5' head and i have 1.25" drains.. 2 drains and 2 returns... right now i have both drains T'd off going into a huge filter sock going into my skimmer section.. i wanted to keep one of the returns going into the skimmer section of fuge and i wanna run the other into the fuge which would be directly under the drain..

maybe i should just drill both and connect them with a bulkhead...the last thing i wanna do is come home from work to a swamp in my living room

Yeah, you would need to elevate the fuge higher than your sump so that it could gravity drain into the return chamber. Or like you said tie them together with a pipe. Do you have a pic of your current sump setup?

easiest thing id say to do is to put the fuge above the sump somewhere and have it gravity fed from the tank to the fuge and then from the fuge to the sump. or you could drill the bulkheads like you said

I usually put my fuges as separate tanks slightly above the fuge, feed them with a small pump and drain them through a hole I drill in the top of the fuge back to the sump.
