i have a small bryopsis problem right now, but i don't want it to become a big one as i know it can very quickly. I have been doing water changes, cut back on feeding and have my levels up, mg 1450ppm, dkh-13 Ca 480ppm. I have been reading trying to figure out a way to kill it off or get rid of it. Well i read on one of the sponser sites that they suggest to put some sort of cover over the spot where it's growing so it won't get light. I thought about this and decided that I would use bubble gum. Not only will it block the light, but it also molds to the rock. I just did it today and will wait a week or two then see what it looks likes. Any opinions will be glad to hear. I will keep you guys updated.

I've used overturned oyster shells before on Derbesia....never tried it on Bryopsis though

Id use some sort of reef epoxy....Ive used that before to kill off some anthellias and mushrooms. same principal as bubble gum except you wont have to pick it out of the tank later. It will just cure to be rock solid and in short time it will get covered in coraline algae and you will never know it was there.

there is also the drastic way of getting it if that doesn't work. Raise your mag really high, I just don't recommend that because I don't want people's corals dyeing, tank crashing and so forth. let me know how the gum goes.

there is only one way and thats to nuke the rock, which means taking the tank apart. even if you cover the bryopsis to get rid of that particular area, the spores are still in the water and will come back someplace else. there is a reason why that stuff has been around forever in the open ocean with or without light
