So my tank is up 6 weeks and while I'm getting tons of diatoms I'm also noting neon pink algae on some of the base rock. I did do a "scraping seed" of coraline from another rock, but it was purple. The rocks it is growing on have good flow over them, and the pink doesnt come off easily (fingernail doesnt get it off) so I don't think it's cyano (which feels slimy, usually is dark red, and rarely grows where there is flow). Can anyone shed some light on this? I always thought it takes much longer (last tank was just starting coraline at 4 months).

By the sounds of it coralline is the only possibility. It can start very fast in good condition.

Yep, sounds like coraline algae. If it's happy in your tank it will spread quickly.

Thanks guys. Do you think my new diatom bloom will have any effect on the coraline?
