I have recently purchased a 72 g bowfront...the sump that came with it is small and I have a C-skim skimmer that I want to hook up and would prefer to do it in the sump versus external. Anyway have been looking at getting a bigger sump but nothing fits in the bowfront plus I am limited because I have already filled the tank (been running for a week and half) But I left the tank a foot or so away from the wall so for once I can get behind the tank and do whatever I need to do. It is hard to explain what I did but basically the tank is sitting in what used to be a closet....took doors down and that so I made the front of the tank flush with the main wall....plus I left enough room on the sides so I can easily get back there.

what I am wondering if I could do is place a sump behind the stand instead of in the stand....I know saltcreep and that will destroy my wall and carpets but my house is covered in salt right now due to the many tanks I have ;D. I can plumb the drain pipe with an L pipe and direct it into the sump. I have a mag 12 so it can either be internal or external and can plumb appropriately for that....

Is this feasable....I am just trying to get the biggest sump I can for this tank as it is going to be a puffer tank which produce a lot of waste. I then can block off the enterance behind the tank from my dogs by what I am doing now..I have placed my fish buckets and that so they can not get in there.

    Any suggestions?

Yes, it is real feasible. I am not sure what your hesitation is? One suggestion, if you are going to stay with the quantity of rock you have in the tank now, you may want to make one of the chambers in the sump a refugium or add a lot more rock in the sump. Also, since it will be behind the tank you could add a few Mangrove plants.
