Ive had a 36'' Aqualight Pro Deluxe that I got for $40 two years ago. Im running a 10k and an actinic on my 40 breeder and there starting to dim. A friend of mine has a Current USA Sundial T5HO that he wants to sell to me for $150. I have a bunch of softies that im worried i might burn out with the T5 and I have two forgspawn which Im not sure will grow under my PC. What do you think? Should I upgrade/ would it be safe? OR stick with the PC?

Upgrade from PC to T5 is no brainer. Go for it. You can start with short photo period if you are worried about your softies. It will be definitely safe.

    upgrade Stephen

you can raise the lights a bit to help your current stock adjust to the new lighting
you can also decrease the duration of the light on period to help

Im sure your current corals will grow to appreciate it
and it also means future coral selection is not limited by your lighting to same degree as it is when using PC

Spend a little more and go Metal Halide :) I love the look way better on my 46g with the MH lighting then the T5. Been talking to my mom about upgrading the 120g to MH.

From one steve to another...THANK YOU! Youve been a great help my friend and so have all the other 3 reefers. As far as current goes do you have any expirience with their products? Are they quality? They seen to be a leader in aquarium lighting.

t5 is better, bulbs = more choices available, and last 12month+.. how old are the bulb in t5 fixture too.. may need to fit that into budget..

Definitely go with t5ho over PC. Unless your tank is shorter than the available t5 bulbs, PC has no advantages over t5ho.

Less energy wasted, longer bulb life, more PAR, better color, less heat...
