I recently purchased a McCosker's Flasher Wrasse and I knew that like all Wrasse the possiblity of it jumping was there (I lost a six-line several months ago to jumping). I decided that I would cover the top and I only left a small 2 inch strip open along the front (to allow for feeding).

After a few weeks of no issues I felt comfortable in knowing that I had sufficiently covered all bases and could relax and enjoy my new addition!

Well, last night as I was getting ready to go upstairs I made one last pass by the tank and everything seemed in its place. As I turned to walk across the room I noticed someting on the wood floor. Before I could even mumble "those darn kids left a mess" it moved! Wow, my Wrasse had jumped through the less than 2" gap and was bouncing around my wood floor. It had to be out of water for at least 2 minutes before I found it. I quickly grabbed it and put it back in. I thought that I lost it when it just sat on the bottom. However, I decided to put a little food in the tank and it slowly moved towards the food and did eat.

This morning he was perfectly fine and eating like always. I took the time to now fully cover the top .. lesson learned!

I love those wrasses. Glad you found it in time. I was entertaining getting one until I read the bit about jumping - my tank is very open top.

( I moved this to the fish board. ;) )

I'm so glad you saw him and could put him back in! I can't believe he found that little gap.

Yes, you are very lucky to have found it in time.

I had 2 wrasses (a christmas and a lubbocks) repeatedly jump through the hole left where the return piping is run in an AGA megaflow tank. I ran my returns over the top of th back of the tank. The top of the overflow was fitted with a custom acrylic cover, so that was the only way they could get in or out of the overflow. They did this several times.

So definitely cover that hole, or it has a very good chance of jumping out again, and your chances of seeing it in time to save it are not very good.

I've had two of those wrasses, one jumped and one just died for no apparent reason. I also had a sixline jump. They are beautiful fish, but I think I will stay away from them fo now.
