I got a falco hawkfish about a week ago, and today I got some more LR as well as a green mandarin goby. I rearranged the tank to fit in the new rocks and I figured this would make the hawkfish less territorial. I noticed tonight that the falco is chasing the mandarin and trying to nip at him. Any suggestions on what to do? I dont have a QT so I cant do that. Thanks.

Might have to remove the hawk or the mandarin goby

Well, you got given an opinion which sounds most reasonable and one that I'd back. However its your tank so do what you want, just don't cry when Sh1t hits the fan :)

I guess I should have been more specific in my question, what i meant is is there a way to separate the hawk to calm him down then re introduce him into the tank or anything like that? It seems like the hawk is searching for the Mandarin it's not like he is getting in the way.

well, if you have got another tank. you can QT him for a while, aquascape up the DT and reintroduce with lights off... it might work but its a 50/50 thing...

i hate to be the bearer of bad new but my family we have had 2 falco hawks and they are super mean. My fathers last one managed to kill in one night his large maroon clown. At that point we knew he had to go. So the whole tank was broken down to catch him we did and back to the LFS he went. They had the same trouble with him till they sold him as well. So i would say keep your little buddy and dump the hawk

My hawk is very mean to everything I put in that is smaller than him or that displays the same mannerisms. The only stuff I would add are fish bigger and more aggressive than him. I added a larger Coral Beauty and he avoids it. A mandarin just has the same mannerisms he does so he views it as something to chase away.

I've heard you can use plastic strainers (like for pasta) to separate out the aggressive fish for a couple days. I've never done it, but that's what I've read. And I think hawkfish are pretty mean.
