People profit from fixing your ills, but only some are accountable and can be removed from their job for being wrong.

I'm of the mind that both can work hand in hand, though for the most part I'd prefer to forgo meds and try to fix things holistically and through focused meditation.

Meditation, good nutrition and intending good health seems a better route....you know an ounce of prevention worth a pound of cure and such.

Interesting topic, yes. I def believe in the power of the human spirit and positive thinking attracting positive things. Meditation, not sure about it being a main source of alt. medicine but knowing how to find your "happy place" when your body is going through stress is def a +.

Well, I think meditation has its place - but that place is not as a replacement for medicine. I think of it more as a preventative technique than a reactive technique like the way medicines are generally used.

In other words, strep throat isn't going to be cured with anything other than an antibiotic or a strong immune system and some luck. But meditation might keep you from getting stressed enough to contract strep in the first place.

Meditation is more a preventative I think.
A time to just let go and find your inner peace...and for a more focused sort of meditation to concentrate on well being...which can incorporate all aspects of life.

To many people concentrate on the bad things in life and they then in turn get more of it, and since that is their main focus that is their main experience. I choose to expend my energy on what I want as opposed to what I don't want. therefore my life experience is a happier one.

Agree w/above. Meditation is not a complete alternative to medicine, but the body can benefit from lowered stress which may be attained via meditation (as well as from other methods). A positive outlook may benefit even in the face of great turmoil.

As for strep treatment analogy, my $0.02 is get the antibiotic unless you want to contend with valvular heart disease in the future. ;)

For me personally meditation has helped me deal with anxiety and dealing with stress. I think it can be great for mental health and overall well being. As a single father of a 4 year old I can put a lot of pressure on my self and there is only so much stress my hobby can help me deal with. Reefing and meditation (not at the same time) keep me focused and allow me to not feel so overwhelmed with everyday pressures!

I believe in it until I get sick.

But I do believe we're over medicated as a society. Sometimes there are alternatives to pills. A cup of hot green tea and a nap does wonders. But so does DayQuil and/or Tylenol.
