    So sorry about Yoda :(

However, a small mantis would be fine in an 8 gallon without a protein skimmer. They don't mind messy water, and as long as it looks fairly clean it should be great.

Alex at Fifth Day could probably hook you up with a mantis. I got my Neogonodactylus Wennerae from him, and she has grown from .5" to 1.5" long :D And FAT. It seems her girth has increased more than length after molts.

Any of the gonodactylus or neogonodactylus species will be fine in a 8 gal. Gonodactylus Smithii would be the best, but very rare.

Ya I don't think it was our fault, we took very good care of her... it was just bad luck I guess, she apparently stressed from the move and then the molt on top of that.

a smithii would be nice, but they are rare.

We are thinking about buying a live rock and just putting it in the 8gal and just seeing what we get, but my thinking is, it costs way more than a mantis and we don't even know if we will get anything interesting. I think we would be better off just buying a $15 or $20 mantis. That way we know what we're getting and it's something that we want.

    thanks dcota.

Ya pretty sure we won't be able to find a smithii, but we have about a month before we get another mantis.
