Curt Addy was the guys name I can not recall the lady what was her Name ? Sullivan or something like that ? They where the two who where redoing the aquariums there around 1980 or so ? The Marble Contractor had me to come in for some drain branches then I got to talking with them and wound up doing their scrubbers and piping for them there also a 5 or 10 K tank was being installed then.. The woman who's name I can't recall now was far more advanced then he was . That was my first exposer to any algal filtration of any type for a be all do all and it did not nor is it still a all in one will do everything filtration method and They will find the needs and short comings of them all if they try it as a be all end all filtration idea..

Thats it man Loveland I was stuck on Sullivan I have been trying to recall her for yrs .. Not a big name person but she was the one who had the better grasp on what was going one.. Addy was a little weird I always thought kind os stand offish huge ego arrogant SOB. In over a years time I bet he did not speak 20 words to me or anyone building or working the in the place .

 

Walter is an idiot. However, him and Karen did invent the word "Refugia" (now called refugiums). In fact, a number of very famous reefers literally stole their ideas and claimed them as their own. (I.e. sold books, spoke at conferences, sold products, etc.)

However, all of this was based off of a false concept.....that you could build a Mesocosm in a small glass tank. Heck, Dynamic Aquaria is where Shimek's DSB came from. (Mind you, Walter has never once owned a reef tank).

 

Yes she was pretty sharp and she was the one who turned me onto them I was about 100 Miles from D.C and I invited her down one weekend she did come and laid out my first true refergium several months after i built my first turf scrubber . As for having your ideas used LOL Like My son was on a Job the other week and saw a flush bucket and he commented on it to the guy who had it Guy saying my pop has used these for many yrs the guy said huum its called a Bornerman surge device LOL pretty new idea I think ???

And as for Dr. Smuck LOL I'll pass on that idiot.. Hell he did not have a tank either until the early 90's .. I know where he found out what he thought he knew and tried to expand on ..

 

Thats kind of was what I was thinking, why not use them like bluewater say's in in conjunction with other filtering systems. Everything I have read about them points to them working just not as well as some would have your think thats all. I'd be interested to see what you old timers (only in knowledge not age, mind you) think about that.....: whew dodged that bullet

 

If you can stand to read through this dribble that was the only reason i even posted on this thread and I stated that they serve a purpose but when I saw then being touted as a end all be all do all filtration methoed replied to it then. Its not and will not ever be a total system ..
