So this is pertaining to my 35g Hex planted freshwater aquarium. I have a large angelfish pair and 1 pleco. I recently replaced my light bulbs[2x 23w CFL] I replaced one bulb then waited two days and replaced the second. A few days ago we all noticed my koi angelfish had a cloudy eyeball which looked like an abrasion from a rock. The next day the second eye turned a little cloudy and his behaviour became very sluggish...only sitting in the bottom of the tank. Once the light timer turned off he began acting normal, eating, and swimming all over the tank like he normally does. So we immediately ruled that it was due to the new lights burning his eyeballs.

I have had the lights off now for two days and have not seen much of an improvement. I was looking into healing aids for fish and Melafix came up, but it also has reviews good and bad. Some say its great others say it has nuked their tank.
Maybe I can just leave the lights off for another week or two and hope for the best and avoid adding anything all together. However Melafix sounds like it would help.

Any advice would be very appreciated... I do not want to lose my fish but I also do not want to kill my other two fish that still are healthy. Thanks for reading and I hope I can get some worthy feedback

I used it in my reef tank and it saved my clown fish that had pop eye. Did not seem to bother any of my other fish or corals. Beware it stinks tho!

If I use this I need to remove all active carbon right?

I think it would be better to use Melafix than wait and hope for the best..

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Have you checked the water quality?

Good luck to you. I like the products but if the water quality has declined the condition will be better treated if that is corrected.

    Following and good luck.

My Nitrates were very high, my ammonia and nitrites were low. Ph is 7.2 unsure of Ak.

I have done a 15g water change over the course of three days. I don't really know what more to do at this point that is why I'm questioning the Melafix product

That's an infection, not "burnt eyeballs". One scenario could be, something with the new lights stressed them out, their immune system drops (with stress) and they become vulnerable to an opportunistic infection. Or it could also just be a coincidence that it occurred at the same time as the light swap. If the lights are too bright, they will hide or look for shade.
